*for this assignment, you will need to reference the Bedford Handbook. You can find the appropriate chapters in the 7th edition (link on the left-hand side of the blog) under the "Researched Writing" node.
The Bedford Handbook offers excellent resources and tips for writing good research (Chapters 50-59). The more you explore, the better off your paper will be. I will walk us through some of this exploration, but in this final project I expect you to put in the effort, risk, and investment.
I ask that you complete a simple outline, either digitally or physically (in Notebook), for each chapter listed in the heading (50, 51, 55, 59). The more you include specific examples, the better. Here is research done on the benefits of note-taking, and some tips on how to note-take well.
Your outline for each chapter should look something like this:
Chapter 50 - Conducting Research
- 50a - Pose questions worth exploring
- Choose narrow question
- Too broad: (example)
- Narrower: (example)
- ...challenging Q
- Too bland: (example)
- challenging: (example)
- ...grounded Q
- too speculative (example)
- grounded (example)
- 50b - Map out a research strategy
- ...
Here is a list of the sections from each chapter I would like you to outline--you may skip over ones not listed:
CHAPTER 50: a, b, e, f
CHAPTER 51: a, b, c, d
CHAPTER 55: a, b
CHAPTER 59: a, b, c
I will be checking your outlines for completion. Bedford 57 also offers quality information about MLA formatting, but you can also find this information at the Purdue website on the left-hand side of the blog.
