Persuasive Writing

Biblical Integration

Read Luke 15-16 OR James 1-2. NIV is the standard MV translation, but I encourage you to try out the ASV or NRSV. Consider in what ways money/mammon/wealth causes us to fall, and how redemption can occur.

What does Jesus or the author of James teach regarding riches, the wealthy, and the poor?
Where is Pip in relation to these teachings?
Where are you in relation to these teachings?

Compose a reflection that answers these questions, a prayer that addresses these questions or asks for help, or a meditation that would help facilitate others in reflecting on these teachings.

Creative options:
1.       Where is Pip? Make a sketch, include an illustration or image, and add a quote that shows where Pip is in his journey right now. (Each block day). Create a scrapbook of Pip’s experiences, with a short explanation of why each scrapbook item is important to Pip’s journey. Consider creating an illustration in the style of Impressionist art.
a.      Image or illustration
b.      Quote from the book
c.       Explanation
2.      Create a work of art that reflects a specific portrayal of the wealthy, working, or impoverished class in Dickens’ work. Find a way to create this art in a way that also speaks to our own age, perhaps by combining imagery of class in 21st century American with class in 19th century Britain.
