Q3 Independent Reading Assignment

Once you have read your outside reading book, chosen from the list on Focus/Google Folder, you will present a proposal to the class, “selling” your book to your classmates.

Due: In class, Block day: March 5-6

Proposal:

Content
1. Why should we read your book?
2. What about the characters will readers be able to connect to?
3. What themes will be engaging and compelling for readers to grapple with?
4. What about the writing style is exceptionally beautiful, apt (appropriate), or well done?
5. Include two quotes (cited correctly) that might entice readers.
6. Include a short biography of the author: what makes him/her a great author, and when/why the book was written (for instance, is there a specific historical event the book addresses?).
7. What do critics say about the book? (what reviews can you find on the back of the book or online?)

Format:
The mode of your proposal is up to you, but must cover everything above in 2-3 minutes. Think creatively about how to present it to your peers in a compelling way. You may choose one of these formats:
         1. Short film, whether animated or live-action. Edit well.
         2. Speech--in which case, you should have notes prepared, and a script to turn in.
         3. Print Advertisement--a creative document that covers each area, including a brief description by you as you walk students through the images and text on your document.

30 points; graded using Visual and Spoken Communication Rubrics.
